Competition Chair "Canis"
In this project, a piece of furniture was developed on behalf of SPG for the Becker Brakel design forum.

Our aim was to design an armchair which, thanks to its ergonomically adapted seat shell made of molded fleece, can do without upholstery without losing any of its comfort. The choice of frame material - wood - underlines this comfort factor, as does the free-swinging backrest, which is sufficiently stable thanks to the frame underneath. The organic curves of the seat shell and frame on the outside, combined with the geometric edges of the shell division and the inside of the frame, create an exciting, high-contrast design language. In addition, the enlarged armrest, the bend at elbow height and the tapered frame ensure optimum seating comfort. Finally, the association of the frame with a sledge rounds off the organic, Scandinavian appearance of the chair.
The name CANIS:
It was precisely this association that gave the chair its name. It is derived from the Latin word for sled dog. More directly translated, however, Canis just means dog, which we associate with a dog lounging comfortably in front of the stove in our armchair.
