Rocky Rocket ship Toy

A tactile learning toy for toddlers: conceived, constructed and built by hand as a final prototype in the workshop. The project combines creative design thinking with craftsmanship and precision.

Created during an exchange semester in Nantes, this project stands for the complete journey from concept to finished prototype and especially for its realisation through different craft-based skills. The starting point was a brief for an educational toy for toddlers that supports cognitive and motor development and is inspired by Montessori principles. Three games were to be combined in one object: a stacking element, a shape-sorting game and a bead maze. Sustainable materials were part of the concept, as was a consistently child-friendly and high-quality finish.

After an initial phase of ideation and sketching, the concept was transferred into CAD and then realised in the workshop. The focus was not only on the final product, but also on the deliberate use of different model-making and prototyping techniques, from material selection and surface finishing through to the quality of the final prototype.
